Wrestling on its home mats Saturday, W.F. West notched nine finalists and six champions to win the Evergreen 2A Conference sub-regional wrestling tournament.
The Bearcats racked up 372 team points. Tumwater took second (278) with Shelton third (249).
Graysen Serl won the 144-pound title, taking his first two matches by pin and major decision before topping Shelton’s Caleb Brennan 6-5 in the finals. Andrew Snyder won at 157, beating Aberdeen’s Aidan Watkins 12-5 in the finals.
Tucker Land took the 175 bracket, winning two matches by first-round pin and then topping Shelton’s Hunter Leth 10-4 in the finals. Kyle Nowels won at 190, beating Tumwater’s Cash Short by a 5-2 margin in the finals.
Andrew Penland won his first two matches by pin in the 215 bracket, then put away Rochester’s Jack Dane in the finals by major decision, 12-3. Talan Meredith was first at 285, picking up a pair of pins before getting an injury default win against Rochester’s Jaden Nichols in the finals.
Also reaching the finals for W.F. West were Mason McGregor (106), Lewis Allen (120), Race Scalici (132), and Kallon Homan (165).
McGregor’s run came to an abrupt end when he suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his finals match. The injury will keep him out of the rest of the season, including the regional meet he qualified for by finishing second.
Additional placers for the Bearcats included Adrian Montenegro (126) and Beau Guyette (150), who finished third. Josapht Acuna (157), Solomon Dennis (165) and Angelo Peters (215) were all fourth, and Jayec Ayers (106) Liam Land (132) finished fifth. Rafael Mendez (126), Isiah Nachatilo (144) and Denzel Leith (285) were all sixth.
Centralia’s Jesus Campos won the 120-pound bracket in dominant fashion. Campos won all three of his matches with technical falls, improving to 36-2 on the season and beating W.F. West’s Lewis Allen 20-5 in 2:08 in the finals. The Tigers’ Lafel Denetclas (126) finished fourth and Dashba Denetclaw (144) was fifth.
Tumwater’s Mekhi Richardson won the 150-pound bracket, pinning Shelton’s Phenix Oleachea in the finals. Also for Tumwater, Diego Concepcion (106) took third; Hudson Jackson (106) was fourth); Carter Criss (113) was fourth; Carlos Juarez-Estrada (113) was third; Alex Concepcion (120) was fourth; Andrew Yocum (138) was third; Aiden Sievert (165) was third; Jacob Kaikkonen (175) was third; Aaron Oloyan (175) was fourth; and Nathan Boone (190) was fourth.
Black Hills’ Roberto Rivera-Jesus won the 113 bracket with a win over teammate Aiden Labouff in the finals. Khristian Brant won the 138 title, Cash Boos was third at 120, Jude Bender (126) was second, Porter Neklason (144) was fourth, Jaric Oraya (144) was third, and Ammon Combs (157) was third.
Playoff wrestling continues for EvCo boys teams on Saturday with the 2A Region 3 tournament in Washougal. The top four placers in regionals advance to Mat Classic XXXV in Tacoma, Feb. 16 and 17.
