The Black Hills volleyball team won its third straight game on Thursday, defeating Centralia in four sets, 25-14, 20-25, 25-20, 25-14.

It was a night for the defenses in Thurston County, as both teams were consistently able to sustain long rallies.

“Both teams were all over the floor making some great defensive plays,” Centralia coach Marti Smith said.

While the Wolves came out on top, Smith was still pleased to see the effort and growth from the Tigers (5-2, 3-2 2A EvCo).

“I don’t like to lose, but I’m not disappointed because we got better tonight and it was good to see what we are capable of,” Smith said. “If we keep playing with the type of energy and overall desire of wanting to get the ball up and make a play, I’m really looking forward to the remainder of our games.”

There were plenty of digs to go around on Thursday, as six players ended up with double-digit digs.

For the Wolves, Annie Dale led the way with 21 digs, while Lillly Kincaid had 12. Kincaid also had a game-high 37 assists, an ace and a block. Ashley Harris led the offensive effort with 22 kills, while also recording eight digs and two aces.

Claire Johnson had eight kills, eight digs, three aces and two blocks, and Ellie Johnson added 10 kills and four blocks.

After a back-and-forth start to the season, the Wolves have now won three league games in a row (5-3, 4-1 2A EvCo).

For the Tigers, Gracie Schofield led the team with 20 digs. Lauren Wasson and McKenna Smith both recorded double-doubles, as Wasson had 13 kills and 13 digs, while Smith had 15 digs, 12 assists and four kills.

Heaven Jacobson also hit double-digits defensively, collecting 11 digs. Selah Calkins was a perfect 15 for 15 from the service line while also tallying out 10 assists. Makayla Chavez and Mikaela Marazita added four kills, and Chavez also recorded four blocks.

Up next, the Wolves head to Longview on Saturday for a tournament at Mark Morris before heading to Shelton on Tuesday.

The Tigers will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday, when they’ll host Aberdeen.
