A 4-3 edge in event wins proved to be just enough for the Pirates to squeak by the Loggers 102-101 to claim the girls team title at a league meet held in Raymond on Thursday night.

Karsyn Freeman swept the hurdle events for Adna, running sub-18 seconds in the 100 and winning the 300 by three-plus seconds. Teammate Lillian Wellander, the long jump winner, was second in both hurdle races.

Lillian Boyd secured the discus with a toss of 100-07 as the Pirates netted six events with at least one top-three finisher.

Onalaska’s Sommer Zurinskas won the high jump and triple jump while Kaiyah Sandridge tossed the javelin 81 feet flat for the victory. The Loggers had eight of the 18 events with a top-three placer.

Oakville’s Mia Berg finished third in the open 200 and anchored its 800 relay to a runner-up finish. Toledo mid-distance runner Whitney Olson placed second in the 800.

On the boys side, Onalaska dominated the team race with a staggering 145 points. It picked up three wins from Cole Russon as the junior swept the hurdles and ran the second leg on its winning 1,600 relay.

The Loggers shined in the field events as Justice Miller (discus), Luke Barrick (pole vault), Eli Srnka (long jump) and Morgan Allen (triple jump) all finished first.

Oakville was fourth in the team race with 57 points. Its lone winner was Cecil Gumaelius in the 3,200 with a time of 11:18.36. The Acorns’ distance runner also finished top-three in the 800 and 1,600.

Adna’s Conner Fagerness was second in the 400 while Toledo had a trio of third place finishers in Eric Bragg (300 hurdles), Anthony Defranco (long jump) and Dominic Luna-Sanchez (triple jump).
