The Mossyrock football team couldn’t keep either ahold of or up with one of the hottest offenses in the state Saturday, losing its 1B semifinal against Wilbur-Creston-Keller 66-22 at Lions Field in Moses Lake.
“Our luck ran out today,” Mossyrock coach Eric Ollikainen said. “WCK is a great team and we would have had our hands full if we were at full strength. Unfortunately, the injury bug got to us and we got steamrolled.”
Wilbur-Creston-Keller scored the first three touchdowns of the afternoon, and bolted out to a 44-14 lead at halftime thanks to a 30-point second quarter. After the break, the Wildcats tightened up defensively, forcing quarterback Easton Kolb to throw eight straight incompletions to start the half before he hit Hunter Isom for a touchdown with the clock running in the fourth quarter.
Kolb finished 4 for 14 for 57 passing yards, and also ran in a touchdown. Zack Munoz finished with 21 rushing yards and 22 passing yards, and also threw for the Vikings’ first touchdown on a 48-yard pass to Peyton McClure.
Marshall Brockway led the Vikings with 23 rushing yards.
“I’m proud of how the team battled, even when the writing was on the wall,” Ollikainen said.
Mossyrock ends its season with a 10-2 record. The Vikings will graduate Munoz, Isom, Brockway, McClure, Koltin Kaech, Fernando Ojeda and Michael Rios.
