UW Huskies, WSU Cougars move 2027 Apple Cup to August

Posted

For the second consecutive year, the Washington Huskies will start the 2027 football season with an Apple Cup showdown against cross-state rival Washington State.

And sooner than ever before, the Huskies will play Aug. 28 — the earliest UW has ever started a season.

The game, which will be held at Martin Stadium in Pullman, was originally scheduled for Sept. 18 before both schools agreed to move the date.

The Huskies (4-3, 1-3) beat the Cougars 24-10 on Sept. 6 in the first-ever season-opening matchup between the teams. UW owns a 78-34-6 record against WSU in a series that began in 1900.

After the Apple Cup, Washington is scheduled to host Fresno State on Sept. 4 and Portland State on Sept. 11 at Husky Stadium next season.

In 2027, the Huskies will host Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, and USC, while playing road games at Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State, and Rutgers.

Washington State's 2027 nonconference schedule begins with the UW opener and includes home games against Idaho and Kansas on Sept. 4 and Sept. 11, respectively and a road trip to Arizona on Sept. 25.

The Cougars have a bye on Sept. 18.
