Tumwater Opens Playoffs With Sedro-Woolley

Never get into a land war in Asia, never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line, and never underestimate a District 1 2A in the postseason.

The Tumwater football team better beware of the third lesson especially come Friday, when the T-Birds welcome No. 10 Sedro-Woolley to Sid Otton Field for their first-round matchup in the state tournament.

The Cubs’ lower seeding is entirely based on their 7-2 record. But a quick dive just a little bit deeper shows a bit more context. The first of those two losses came to No. 1 Lynden — by three points. The second came to No. 6 Anacortes, capping a murderer’s row of a back-to-back normally only seen in Lewis County 2B and Whatcom County 2A schedules.

Since then, the Cubs have gone 4-0, including a 26-21 win over Burlington-Edison, their lone common opponent with Tumwater. The T-Birds took care of the Tigers 34-7 way back in Week 1.

After the game against Burlington-Edison, Sedro-Woolley ripped off three straight wins, scoring at least 42 points in each.
