The Napavine volleyball team took care of business on Monday, sweeping Toledo 25-12, 26-24, 25-22 in a C2BL matchup.
While the Tigers (12-3, 6-2 C2BL) came out strong, they struggled at times in the second and third sets, and the Riverhawks (7-8, 4-4 C2BL) took advantage and kept it close.
While the Tigers were able to turn it back on to close out the sets and the match, Napavine coach Monica Dailey said that it’s becoming more important to avoid those lulls as the postseason nears.
“We didn’t play to our full potential tonight,” Dailey said. “It was senior night, so emotions were a little all over the board, I’ll chalk it up to that … We need to be playing our best games all the time going into the playoffs.”
Dakota Hamilton had a great night offensively, contributing to 25 points with 15 kills and 10 assists. Jessie McCoy added 15 assists and three aces, while Keira O’Neill also had three aces and tacked on nine kills.
Emily Kang was perfect from the service line and had seven digs, while Anna Thompson added four blocks at the net.
While they were able to keep it close late, the Riverhawks never fully recovered from the first set, with coach Kelli Larson saying they never got into a rhythm.
“We got off to a very slow start and spent too much time out of system to run a more dynamic offense,” Larson said.
Stefa Arceo-Hansen and Ellie Fallon had five kills each while Arceo-Hansen also led the team with 12 digs. Lyndzie Filla added 10 digs, and Whitney Olson had 16 assists.
Napavine has clinched a top-four spot at the district tournament that begins Saturday, but they’ll have the chance to move into the top-three on Wednesday when they take on 7-1 Toutle Lake.
At 4-4 in league play, Toledo has secured a spot in the district tournament, though they’ll need a win on Wednesday against Onalaska to guarantee they stay in the fifth spot.
