Tigers overcome slow start to beat Loggers

The Napavine girls basketball team needed a bit of a comeback after a rough start Wednesday, but got going with plenty of time left to roar back and down Onalaska 65-34.

The Loggers (4-8, 1-4 C2BL) led 10-8 after a quarter of play, holding the Tigers (11-1, 5-0 C2BL) to just two field goals in the first eight minutes.

After that, though, Napavine ended the first half on a 21-5 run to wrest control completely in its favor, and broke the second half open with a 26-10 run in the third quarter.

Hayden Kaut led all scorers with 23 points, going 4 for 7 from beyond the arc; the rest of the Napavine lineup combined to go 1 for 8. Keira O’Neill scored 16 points and also led the Tigers with nine rebounds and six blocks.Taylen Evander had eight points, six assists and four steals, while Kaut, O’Neill, Grace Gall and Clara Fay all had three steals.

Kate Zandell scored 11 points to lead Onalaska.

The Loggers turned the ball over 29 times, and the Tigers turned them into 31 points.

Napavine will host Morton-White Pass on Friday, and Onalaska will head to Toutle Lake.
