Tigers clamp down on Montesano

The tough news for the Napavine girls basketball team is that 1A Montesano scored the most points the Tigers have allowed all season.

The good news is that if your worst defensive outing is 20 points given up, you’re doing something right.

The Tigers put on another defensive clinic Tuesday, downing the Bulldogs 64-20 in a non-league contest.

Montesano managed seven points in the first quarter, five in the second, eight in the third and none in the fourth. Through three games, the Tigers have yet to allow an opponent to break double figures in a single quarter, and have pitched four period-long shutouts.

On the other end, Hayden Kaut finished with 18 points, Taylen Evander scored 17 and Avery Schutz had 16. Kaut and Schutz both hit four 3-pointers, and Evander drilled a pair.

Thirty-six of Napavine’s points came off of 35 Montesano turnovers.

Keira O’Neill grabbed 11 rebounds and had four steals and a block on defense. She and Jessie McCoy both dished out three assists.

Napavine will get into its Central 2B League schedule Friday at Wahkiakum.
