The Thurston County Board of Commissioners will host a media day and proclamation Tuesday, July 29 in recognition of the county winning 19 national awards for community programs.

The National Association of Counties recognized Thurston County with 19 Achievement Awards, more than any other county in Washington state, for innovative programs that enhance the lives of local residents, according to a county news release.

One of these awards, celebrating the Fix-it-Fair, earned a prestigious Best in Category distinction for its creative approach to sustainability and community engagement.

Other award-winning initiatives include efforts to improve election security and voter education, expand access to public health services, preserve trails, assist landowners and offer behavioral health support through the county’s resource hub.

The recognition will be held at 2 p.m. at The Atrium building at 3000 Pacific Ave. SE in Olympia during the commissioners’ business meeting.
