A Pacific police officer killed a man in an Algona home this week after the man shot and wounded a 17-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman in what is described as a case of domestic violence.
Additional information about the Tuesday shooting was released Thursday by the Valley Independent Investigative Team, which is called in for such incidents involving police use of force. A news release from the investigative team said the man shot the two and was in a struggle with another male over a rifle when the officer shot him.
No information was provided about how the people involved might have been related.
Algona police Chief James Schrimpsher said Tuesday that a person in the home called 911 reporting a family member had been shot, and that people from nearby businesses called to say shots had been fired outside the home.
Pacific and Algona police officers arrived shortly before 8:30 a.m., according to the news release, and heard gunshots coming from inside.
The 17-year-old, who had been shot in the abdomen, exited the house with other family members.
Inside, a family member was struggling with the man over a rifle and forced the man out of the doorway, the news release said. As the two continued struggling outside, a Pacific officer shot the man, according to the news release.
On Thursday, the King County medical examiner's office identified the man killed by police as 43-year-old Abraham Gonzalo Lee.
Lee died at the scene.
The teenager and the woman were taken to Harborview Medical Center and are expected to survive.
The news release did not provide information on whether Lee pointed the rifle at police.
