T-Birds sweep out Tigers

The Tumwater volleyball team hit the ground running and only sped up Thursday, sweeping their 2A EvCo matchup against Centralia 25-14, 25-11, 25-9.

Natalie Montoya-Kilmer led a balanced offensive effort at the net for the Thunderbirds (9-1, 7-0 2A EvCo) with 10 kills on .474 hitting. Whitney Van Gorkom added six kills without logging an error, while Paige Henderson had five (also without an error) and Chloe Henderson, Natalie Manning and Tove Hugus all had four.

Van Gorkom, Manning and Chloe Henderson all sent back two blocks at the net, while Brooklynn Hayes had 11 digs and Mckayla Clary had eight. Clary also led the T-Birds with seven aces, and Emily Robello dished out 30 assists for Tumwater’s 34 kills.

Makayla Chavez led the Tigers (5-4, 3-4 2A EvCo) with four kills, while Mikaela Marazita added three blocks. In the back row, McKenna Smith had a team-high 11 digs, and Gracie Schofield logged 10.

Centralia will be in Longview for R.A. Long’s tournament on Saturday, then return to EvCo play at home Tuesday against Rochester. Tumwater will try to win its second Pioneer Bowl matchup of the season Tuesday at Black Hills.
