Two Twin Cities doubles teams — one from Centralia and one from W.F. West — are playing in the state semifinals on Saturday in their respective state tennis tournaments.

W.F. West’s Joseph Chung and Aaron Boggess are playing in the 2A boys doubles semifinals after going 2-0 on Friday in the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Bearcat duo beat North Kitsap’s Garrett Rhoads and Ryan Williams, 6-2, 6-2, in their opener, then topped Bellingham’s Clive Ewersen and Isaac Knickrehm 6-1, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.

Chung and Boggess take on Selah’s Quentin Garretson and Malachi Young in the semifinals on Saturday.

Centralia’s Elizabeth Hopkins and Maddie Corwin also made the state semifinals. The Tiger duo beat Lynden’s Kalanie and Adia Newcomb, 7-5, 6-1 in the opening round of the 2A girls doubles bracket, then beat Olympic’s Kaiya Moore and Claire Caldwell in two sets in the state quarterfinals.

Hopkins and Corwin will face Black Hills’ Athena and Sienna Moore in the state semifinals Saturday morning, also in Seattle at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Also in the 2A boys doubles bracket, Centralia’s Landon Kaut and Brandon Young lost to Garretson and Young in the first round, but beat Pullman’s Kolby Uhlenkott and Garrison Holland, 6-2, 6-1 to stay alive in the consolation bracket. Kaut and Young face Enumclaw’s Carter Eldridge and Tristan Vieren Saturday morning for a spot in the fifth-place match.

W.F. West’s Javyn Han and Justin Chung were both bumped out of the 2A boys singles bracket on Friday. Chung beat Anacortes’ Matthew Rutz in the first round, 0-6, 6-4, 6-1, but lost to Sammamish’s Josh Chou in the quarterfinals before falling to Vijay Lin, from Pullman, 6-1, 6-1.

Han lost to Selah’s Kellam Adams, 6-1, 6-1, and Pullman’s Seth Luna, 7-5, 6-1.

1A Girls

Tenino’s Megan Letts lost her first set of the season in the opening round Friday morning, but bounced back to beat Connell’s Ellen Wickham 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 in the 1A state girls singles tournament in Yakima.

Letts, however, lost in the quarterfinals — 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 — to Deer Park’s Carmen Kiewert, then lost 6-1, 6-0 in the consolation quarterfinals to Annie Wright’s Yayoi Junior. Letts, a senior, went undefeated in the regular season and won the 1A District 4 singles tournament.
