Spartans Slam Mountaineers

The Mountaineers struck first, but strong play from Forks Friday night saw Rainier fall to 0-3 this season in a 34-8 defeat.

Senior Logan Bowers took an interception and housed it for the game’s opening score, but after that, it was all Spartans. Forks scored 34 unanswered points to stay unbeaten this season while Rainier is still looking for its first win.

Mountaineers quarterback Ian Sprouffske has struggled to find a rhythm after a COVID-19 breakout saw Rainier lose two weeks of its season after dropping a narrow opener against Toledo in Week 1. Sprouffske threw for just 69 yards on 7 of 27 passing, most frequently targeting Hunter Howell, who caught three passes for 35 yards.

Kyle Peterson was the Mountaineers leading rusher, with 21 yards.

On the defensive end, Bowers starred for the Mountaineers, intercepting two passes, coming away with two sacks, and bringing down nine ballcarriers in a strong showing for the senior.
