Rochester K9 training business owner Wayne George Curry, who had been jailed for manslaughter but was released on $250,000 bail last week, is back in custody at the Thurston County Jail after he allegedly violated a court-issued no-contact order.

The details of that no-contact order violation were not publicly available as of Tuesday evening.

Curry, 64, of Rochester, was initially arrested on June 3 after detectives with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal shooting that occurred at Curry’s business, Kraftwerk K9, that morning.

During their investigation, detectives determined that a stray bullet from a gun Curry was shooting during the filming of a commercial had struck the victim, 22-year-old Curtice Gordon, in the face and caused his death. Curry was arrested, and Thurston County Superior Court Judge Allyson Zipp ruled June 4 to find that there was probable cause to charge Curry with first-degree manslaughter.

Zipp set Curry’s bail on June 4 at $250,000 — below the prosecution’s request for $750,000 bail and higher than the defense’s request for $25,000 bail.

Zipp also approved anti-harassment no-contact orders in favor of three witnesses to the incident. The no-contact orders prohibit Curry from having any contact with the witnesses or going within 1,000 feet of any of the witnesses.

Since all three witnesses are employees at Kraftwerk K9, the orders prohibited Curry from entering the business.

Zipp and the prosecution agreed June 4 that the orders were necessary due to concerns that Curry would seek to intimidate witnesses or otherwise interfere with the administration of justice.

The court approved an exception to the 1,000-foot restriction in the orders to allow Curry to remain in his home, which is about 300 feet away from the business on the same property.

Curry’s conditions of release also prohibited him from having any contact with the victim’s family until the case was resolved.

Curry posted $250,000 bail on June 6 and was released from the Thurston County Jail that same day.

The Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office also formally filed charges against Curry on June 6 and set an arraignment hearing for June 17.

Curry’s next review hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, to confirm that Curry abided by the court’s orders to turn over all of his firearms.
