Fisherman uses Siri to call for rescue after being pinned by a boulder on Oregon Coast

A fisherman pinned under a boulder on the Oregon Coast used Siri voice commands to hail emergency responders.

Joe Little was fishing alone out on the jetty Sept. 26 when, according to his mother in an interview with CBS News, a large rock slipped and fell on top of her son.

“He thought he was going to die,” his mother, Mindy Little, told the news outlet.

Unable to move freely, Little happened to be wearing headphones that allowed him to tell Siri, Apple’s iPhone voice assistant, to call 911, according to CBS.

The Warrenton Fire Department responded and requested help from the U.S. Coast Guard, officials said.

An Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived to hoist Little from the rocks. He was subsequently rushed to Columbia Memorial Hospital for further treatment, officials said.

The family was raising funds to pay for facial reconstruction surgery that they say was needed as a result of injuries Little suffered in the accident.
