The Toledo boys basketball team flipped the script on Kalama after two quiet quarters to start its night Wednesday, figuring things out after halftime to come away with a 56-41 win in Central 2B League action.
The Riverhawks (13-5, 7-4 C2BL) only scored 18 points in the first half — nine apiece in each of the first two quarters — and went into the break down seven.
"I just told the guys there was too much talk and not enough action,” coach Grady Fallon said.
In the second half, Toledo brought the action. This time, it was the hosts holding their guests to single digits twice, and the Riverhawks ended the night on a 38-16 run.
“That was one of our goals: Let’s lock these guys up, let’s play good defense, let’s be aggressive, and the guys answered the call in the second half,” Fallon said.
Kaven Winters led the Riverhawks with 14 points and nine rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive glass. Cooper Fallon came darn close to a triple-double with 13 points, eight rebounds and eight blocks down low. Rogan Stanley, back at full strength after missing the majority of Toledo’s loss to Adna last Saturday, scored 12 points.
“We’ve had quite a few good team efforts, not just one guy dominating,” Grady Fallon said.
Now, the challenge is set to increase dramatically for the Riverhawks, who are set to end their regular season with three of the top five teams in the C2BL in the span of seven days. First up in that run is a home game against undefeated Napavine on Friday.
