The Adna girls basketball team hit the road for its Regional Round matchup against Okanogan on Friday, and they came away with a 56-44 win that puts them through to the state quarterfinals.

“To travel here on the day off, for them to still have the energy … It was awesome,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “It was just the ultimate team win.”

The Pirates came out of the gates firing, executing their half-court sets “to a tee” to take a 10-point lead after one and a 13-point lead at the break.

“The first half was a half-court battle,” Bannish said. “I was really happy with that.”

The Bulldogs made their halftime adjustments and got within two late in the third, but Karsyn Freeman scored six straight points to push the lead back to eight.

Freeman finished with 33 points to lead the Pirates, shooting 13 for 20 from the floor. As a team, the Pirates shot 23 of 34 for a mark of 53.5 percent, while they held the Bulldogs to just 17 of 50, a mark of 35 percent.

The Pirates were also able to steal some extra possessions, as they forced 24 Okanogan turnovers.

Gaby Guard added eight points and Danika Hallom scored seven, while Bailey Chapman scored six and Kendall Humphrey added two. Chapman and Humphrey helped lock down the paint throughout, and Chapman came away with seven blocks.

With the win, the Pirates are now into the state quarterfinals and through to the double-elimination side of the bracket. They’ll await the winner of the Round of 12 game between Rainier and the winner of the Toutle Lake-La Conner Regional on Saturday.

Adna’s quarterfinal will begin at 12:15 p.m. in Spokane arena on Thursday.
