Pirates Stifle Ducks in Rout

The Adna girls basketball team stuffed Toutle Lake Friday night at home, holding the Ducks to single-digit scoring in every quarter but the fourth in a 63-31 league win.

The Pirates lept out to a 35-13 lead at half, led by Danika Hallom’s 18 point outburst. Hallom would end up with 23 points on the night.

“We played really well,” Pirates coach Chris Bannish said. “That was our best first quarter in a while. We’re sharing the ball. Our motto is one more, we’re really starting to skip the ball and see across the court. It’s fun to watch basketball.”

From there, the rest of the Pirates settled in, with Karlee VonMoos scoring 13 points and Brooklyn Loose adding 11.

It improves the Pirates record to a perfect 7-0 overall, and 4-0 in league play.

“I’m very proud of them,” Bannish said. “When I set the schedule I was hoping to be 6-2 heading into the break, maybe 7-1. Being 7-0 with a big test at Montesano next Tuesday, I’m very happy with it. You have kids that understand, you call a set and they know where to go, the timing is all good and most of them can play every spot. For us, being able to run the same things through a lot of players is leading to success.”

The Pirates take on Montesano at 7 p.m. on the road Tuesday for a big non-league matchup against a strong 1A squad.
