Pirates can’t hang with Ducks

The game plan for teams playing Toutle Lake is generally simple: Limit Zach Swanson. The Adna boys basketball team did a decent job of that Thursday, but couldn’t keep the rest of the Ducks off the scoreboard in a 70-56 loss.

“We tried a couple things to try to take Zach away in the first half, and their other guys made everything they shot,” Adna coach Luke Salme said.

The Pirates (6-3, 3-2) held Toutle’s 2,000-point scorer to just three field goals in the first half, but let Hunter Lundquist go off for 19, digging themselves a 20-point hole at halftime they couldn’t get out from.

“They also forced us into a lot of turnovers in the first half, and they kicked our butts on the boards all night,” Salme said. “Can’t win games in this league with that combination.”

Lane Johnson led Adna with 16 points, with Jens Neilson and Trevin Salme both scoring nine. As a team, the Pirates shot 23% from beyond the arc.

Adna will come back home to take on Kalama next Wednesday.
