The Adna boys basketball team didn’t look like a team that had driven 150 miles Thursday, blowing out Orcas Island 71-31 in its first of two games at the Mount Vernon Holiday Tournament.

“I’m proud of the way we competed after that drive up, right from the start,” Adna coach Luke Salme said.

The Pirates (8-1, 3-1 C2BL) dropped 29 points in the first quarter, led 51-16 at halftime and sat at 66 points after three before finally taking their foot off the gas in the fourth.

Trevin Salme led all scorers with 20 points, going 6 for 10 from beyond the arc, while Lane Johnson had 16, Grayson Humphrey scored nine and Jackson Knittle scored eight.

Jens Neilsen brought down nine rebounds to lead the way on the boards.

Adna will be back in action in Skagit County on Friday, against either Lummi or Mossyrock.
