Traditionally held from mid-September to the first Sunday every October in Munich, Germany, communities around the world hold their own Oktoberfest celebrations simultaneously.

With Oktoberfest officially running from Sept. 20 to Oct. 5 this year, Longmire Springs Brewing in Packwood is hosting East Lewis County’s Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 3 to 9 p.m., according to a news release.

“Get ready to raise a stein and toast to the season because we’re bringing Bavaria to East Lewis County,” Longmire Springs owner Amy Besunder said in the release. “Join us for a day packed with festive fun, delicious brews, traditional bites and classic games that’ll make you feel like you’re right in the heart of Oktoberfest!”

Free to attend, those who strap on their lederhosen can enjoy the brewery’s signature Oktoberfest beers served in commemorative Rastal Bierstiefel beer-boot glasses that can be kept along with German-style snacks including warm pretzels and sausages. Glass boot supply is limited.

The brews include a märzen and festbier lagers. Those who don’t have lederhosen are still invited to join.

Competitions for attendees are also scheduled, including a stein holding competition at 3 p.m.

Then at 4:30 p.m., hammerschlagen begins.

“Challenge your friends in this traditional nail-driving game, also called ‘stump’ or ‘nagelbalken,’ as you compete to sink nails into a stump faster than your opponents,” Besunder said.

At 6 p.m., Bonnie’s Bavarian Band will begin performing live Oompah music which attendees are invited to dance and sing along to.
