One PK Enough to Give W.F. West Win Over Tumwater

The W.F. West boys soccer team stood strong defensively for 80 minutes, and got just enough offense early to beat Tumwater 1-0 in a crucial 2A EvCo matchup.

“It was a physical, hard-fought win,” WFW coach Allen Anderson said. “Our defense was outstanding tonight, led by Charles Comisky and Cameron Kunz.”

On top of helping to anchor the defensive effort, Kunz gave the Bearcats their one goal, converting a penalty kick in the 11th minute.

In net, Hayden Sciera stopped all seven of Tumwater’s shots on target.

“He communicates with his teammates and keeps them organized, which is crucial against good teams like Tumwater,” Anderson said. “He’s a great leader for us in the back.”

Cody Pennington extended W.F. West’s defensive pressure all the way to the top of the formation, harrying Tumwater’s back line and keeping the T-Birds from ever getting too comfortable.

Winners of six of their past seven games, the Bearcats will head to Centralia on Friday, taking a two-goal advantage into the second leg of the Chronicle Cup.

Tumwater will face Shelton on Friday.
