Mat Cats pick up second straight team title

The Twin City Wrestling Club wrestled at the Washington State Wrestling Association Beowulf Folkstyle Tournament in Port Orchard on Sunday, and the Mat Cats won their second team championship in a row.

They scored 243 points, beating second-place Northwest Washington Wrestling club by 21.5. Forks Wrestling Club finished third with 214.5 points.

Luke Vizgaudis led the way for Twin City, scoring 30 individual points, while Julian Huang added 29 and Jeffery Landon tallied 27 to round out the team’s top three.

Kash Davis (25.5), Emberly Sharp and Thorin Goebel (24), Bowen Driscoll (22), Talmai Houk (21), Isabella Nelson (20.5), Jayden Vizgaudis and Jace Dodd (20 each) all topped the 20-point mark.



Ten Twin City wrestlers won their bracket: Emberly Sharp (Girls K-2nd 49.1-52.2), Eziya Gomez Girls K-2nd 54.2-57.8), Jace Dodd (U8 43), Bowen Driscoll (U8 45), Jeffrey Landon (U8 53), Luke Vizgaudis (U10 59), Julian Huang (U10 77), Kash Davis (U12 67-70), Lula-May Hilliard (Girls 6th-8th 72.2), and Atrayewe Brown (U16 138).

Twelve more finished second: Landen Hill (6U 44.6-45.6), Isabella Nelson (Girls K-2nd 54.2-57.8), Khai Davis (U8 40), Thorin Goebel (U8 53), Isabella Nelson (U8 56), Christopher Kuberth (U8 85), Kyle Coby (U10 84), Chloee Deal (Girls 3rd-5th 108-110.6), Jayden Vizgaudis (U12 67-70), Brayden Nelson (U12 108-114), Kaed Davis (U14 100), and Brayden Nelson (U14 105).

And eight more took third: Adeline White (Girls K-2nd 54.2-57.8), Jace Dodd (U8 45), Talmai Houk (U10 59), Lucas Deal (U10 63), Darius White (U10 105), Ezra Sudano (U14 75), Anthony Soeby (U14 88), and Anthony Soeby (U14 92).

Next up for the Mat Cats is the WSWA Takedown Express Folkstyle Classic at Kent Meridian High School on Sunday. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
