The Morton football team got back in the win column in a big way on Friday night, racing out to a massive lead and rolling to a 62-6 victory over Winlock.
The Huskies scored early and often, posting 30 points in the first quarter before adding 32 more in the second to go up 62-0 at the break.
Logan Mays tallied 151 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and he also returned a punt for a touchdown. Liam Pelletier added 84 rushing yards and three rushing TDs, and he also had a pick-six defensively.
Braxton DeMarco added 36 yards on the ground on just three carries, and Peyton Shields ran in a touchdown from 11 yards out.
It was a welcome bounce back for Morton, which lost by a similar margin last week.
“You want to focus up after a beatdown last week, and we really cleaned some things up,” Morton coach Lee Metcalf said. “Our goal is to improve every week, and I thought we made some strides in the right direction.”
Morton will be back at home next Friday, Oct. 9, when it hosts North Beach. Both teams are 4-1 entering the matchup, and it will also be Morton’s homecoming game.
“It'll be a really interesting game for us,” Metcalf said. “Hopefully, we’ll be dialed in.”
Monte Williams scored Winlock’s lone touchdown, running it in from two yards out in the third quarter.
Winlock (1-4) will hit the road on Thursday to face Ocosta.
