Loggers jump out to early lead, blank Riverhawks

The Onalaska girls soccer team struck fast and struck hard Monday at home, beating Toledo in a Central 2B League match 3-0.

Jules Auman gave the Loggers (7-5, 5-2 C2BL) the lead just five minutes in, and Kaiyah Sandridge made it 2-0 just two minutes after that.

The scoreline would stay at the two-goal deficit for over an hour, before Auman stretched it a goal further in the 75th minute.

Both teams turned things up offensively in the second half, combining for 11 shots on target after just three in the first — two of which went in. Onalaska’s Hailee Brown finished with six saves, five of which came in the second half, while Abril Cabrera made five saves for the Riverhawks (4-8-1, 3-5 C2BL)

Kiley Talley led the Onalaska defense with 10 interceptions and a pair of clearances.

The win puts Onalaska in prime position to finish in the top four of the Central 2B League table, which would give the Loggers hosting rights in the first round of the 2B District 4 tournament. They’ll play at Adna on Wednesday.

Toledo, meanwhile, is still in a spot to make the eight-team field, but has a crucial league matchup against Ocosta coming up Wednesday in Westport.
