Loggers down Tigers, punch State bid

The Onalaska girls soccer team’s district tournament matchup against Napavine went nearly exactly like their game against the Tigers in last year’s district tournament, with the Loggers taking home a 1-0 win in the semifinals of the 2B District 4 Tournament.

Three hundred sixty-two days ago, the Loggers took down the Tigers 1-0 in the district third-place match in Tenino, sealing District 4’s final spot in the state tournament. Thursday, the matchup shifted 68 miles south and moved up a round, but the result was just about the same.

Jules Auman gave Onalaska the goal it needed 10 minutes from full time, scoring off a Jaycee Talley corner kick in the 70th minute.

Aside from that, it was a defensive struggle all night long. Taylen Evander made four saves for Napavine while at the other end of the field, the Onalaska defense kept the Tigers from getting off a single shot at Hailee Brown.

Talley led the Ony defense with 14 interceptions and four clearances.

Onalaska moves on to the district title game in Tenino on Saturday, against two-time defending district champion Kalama. The Chinooks — who still have not allowed a goal to 2B opponents this season — beat the Loggers 5-0 when they met on Oct. 11.

Napavine, meanwhile, will get one more crack at a State bid before the Loggers and Chinooks take the field, facing off against Adna in the third-place match. The Tigers and Pirates battled to a 1-1 draw to open the C2BL season back on Sept. 20.
