The commentary in the Nov. 12 Chronicle by the Seattle Times writer really missed the mark. Obviously, being a Seattle reporter, he’s going to be liberal and wonder how the left lost and most of the country turned right. The only shining star this election was Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a Democrat from Washougal. Frankly, I was surprised when she was first elected. This is a very conservative part of Washington state, and a Democrat won. Having seen her at work for the last two years makes me believe she’s something of a glitch in the liberal system. While she is definitely liberal, she’s willing to buck the party when she believes they’re wrong. And she doesn’t seem to be a confrontational politician like most are today. I believe she won because of Vancouver being the population center of the district, but I believe she is supported by many conservatives because of the way she politics.
As for the rest of the country, I believe they turned right because of the last four years of Biden and Harris.
Biden’s support of the Climate Act has the potential to destroy our economy.
His proclamation of all electric vehicles started it, and then his administration attacked natural gas, and that hit home for many people. How many natural gas dryers, ranges, fireplaces and furnaces are there?
Biden wants them all gone in spite of the fact that natural gas is efficient and relatively inexpensive. And to replace all of those appliances is going to be extremely expensive.
And then there’s the effect all of this electrification will have on our very fragile power grid.
Nuclear power was demonized for so long that people are afraid of it now, and there are few nuclear power plants. Adding millions of electric appliances and tens of thousands, if not millions, of electric vehicles will put our power grid to the test.
People understand this. And the cost of a new EV is far more expensive than gas vehicles.
I believe the final straw, though, for voters this time, was choosing which known politician to follow.
We’ve seen President Biden’s effect on our wallets and our homes, and the chaos at the border.
We know what President Trump did before.
We had a solid economy, relatively good cost of living, fairly inexpensive gasoline and groceries, and some control over illegal immigrants. It’s not that we don’t want immigrants. This country was founded on them.
But in the distant past, those immigrants were not allowed to put a strain on the economy. They weren’t given free health care and money and places to live.
They had to have a sponsor to come here, someone willing to accept responsibility for the immigrant and help them to become a part of our society.
Now they just flow in by the thousands, are put in communities unable to support them, and are turned loose to do whatever.
The citizens of this country don’t like what Biden did, but prefer what Trump did.
