Letter to the editor: Lawmakers who have voted to infringe on our right to keep and bear arms should resign or be fired

Posted

This letter is in response to the article printed in The Chronicle on Jan. 7 titled “Washington state lawmakers propose six gun control bills ahead of 2025 legislative session.”

These lawmakers all took an oath. That oath is very simple. It as follows:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and laws of the state of Washington.”

These are the names, listed in The Chronicle, of several elected officials who took that oath and aren’t keeping their promise to uphold their oath to protect the Constitution.

• Sen. Keith Wagoner, R-Sedro-Woolley

• Sen. Javier Valdez, D-Seattle

• Sen. Rebecca Saldana, D-Seattle

• Sen. John Lovick, D-Mill Creek

• Sen. Majority Leader,Jamie Pedersen, D-Seattle

• Rep. Tarra Simmons, D-Kitsap

• Rep. Joel McEntire, D-Cathlamet

• Rep. Darya Farivar, D-Seattle

• Rep. Time Ormsby, D-Seattle

• Rep. Cindy Ryu, D-Shoreline

• Rep. Sam Low, R-Lake Stevens

• Sen. Noel Frame, D-Seattle

They have all proposed more infringements on our Second Amendment, which states:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

If these lawmakers can’t keep a simple oath to protect our Constitution, then they should all be fired. Keep your promise to the people you serve or get out.

Any other lawmakers who have voted to infringe on our right to keep and bear arms should resign or be fired. One instance is limiting the number of rounds a gun can have in its magazine. That’s an infringement.
