Letter to the Editor: Corrupt Media Will Soon Forget About Immigration Outrage

Posted

This letter is in response to a July 6 letter from Susan Miller that implied that my letter about the ugly side of illegal immigration wasn’t factual.

Everything in my original letter is factually true. It is a fact that 56,000 in 2012 and 59,000 in 2016 unaccompanied alien children attempted to cross into the U.S. illegally, separated from their families.

It is a fact that these minor children were kept in the same enclosures that are now being called cages. It is a fact that while in these enclosures they slept under space blankets, something that became horrendously unthinkable to do to a child in 2018.

It is a fact that 80 percent of the Central American women and young girls are raped or sexually assaulted on their journey north to the U.S. It is a fact that many of these children die along the way or are caught up in human trafficking.

And another fact that garnered no media outrage in 2014 was when the Obama administration released some of the illegal immigrant children to human traffickers here in the U.S.

These Central American nations have been dysfunctional, corrupt, impoverished and crime-ridden for as long as anyone can remember. So why the uptick with illegal immigrant children in 2012 and 2016 flooding our southern border? Because Central Americans found out that the Obama administration had a catch and release program during those years. Once the child is here, the chain migration follows.

At the end of Susan Miller’s letter she provided two internet sites to seek facts. But who fact checks the fact checkers? Politifact.com is a “fact” checking site founded by the St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay Times editorial board.  Guess who the Tampa Bay Times editorial board endorsed in the 2008/2012/2016 presidential election? Hint, it’s wasn’t McCain, Romney or Trump. Politifact also claimed in 2010 that Obamacare will let you keep your current doctor and health plan, and we all know how that “fact” check worked out, don’t we?

FactCheck.org is just another “fact” check site, funded by the leftist Annenburg Public Policy Center — the same Annenberg whose director wrote a glowing book about POTUS 44 in 2008.  The same Annenburg Public Policy Center that funded the Chicago Annenburg Challenge chaired by none other than former POTUS Obama.

So, in a nutshell, the two “fact” check sites that Miller provided are no more reliable with facts than any other leftist sites like ThinkProgress or DailyKos.

Miller’s response letter to my letter is exactly what I was conveying originally: They have selective outrage. What is the difference between 56,000 minor children being separated from their parents in 2012 and 2,000 minor children being separated in 2018?  Well, it’s about a 54,000 difference.

In two weeks, these 2,000 plus Illegal immigrant children will become a distant memory and our corrupt media will move along to another subject to be outraged about (Trump said/did/tweeted/appointed: fill in the blank).
