Letter to the editor: Braun doesn’t have a congressional seat to 'take back'

I am responding to the headline for an article by The Oregonian published in the July 30 edition of which reads: “Trump country sent her to Congress — now, a mainstream Republican (John Braun) wants the seat back.”

I think this candidate has a grandiose opinion of his importance and the importance of Lewis County in Washington’s Third Congressional District.

If my math is correct, in the recent past Democrats have represented the Third Congressional District 36 years compared to 16 years by Republicans. 

This includes Republicans Linda Smith and Jaime Herrera Beutler, and Democrats Don Bonker, Brian Baird, Jolene Unsoeld and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. 

The Third District includes not only Lewis County, but also Clark, Cowlitz, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Skamania and a part of Thurston counties. 

Fortunately, as I see it, Lewis County is not the main area in the Third Congressional District, nor does John Braun have a seat to take back.
