As the Oakville-North River football team prepared for Taholah, Ben Kimbrel told the coaching staff he wanted the ball in his hands more often. Gio Rodas and Lewis Koser missed Friday’s game once again and it was Kimbrel that stepped up to the plate.
He accounted for all seven of the Acorns’ touchdowns, five straight rushing followed by two passing, to help them beat the Chitwins 50-8 at the Chehalis Tribe Baseball Field. He scored from 15, 21, 11, 5 and 13-yards out, then found Andres Rhoades for 39-yard and 5-yard TD throws.
Oh, and Kimbrel also recovered an onside kick, led the team with nine tackles and recovered a fumble.
“Very dominant performance,” Acorns head coach Camren Bowes said. “I’m very proud of how Ben has stepped up.”
Michael Rhoades carried the ball 14 times for 79 yards and recorded two tackles for loss. Isaiah Napolean had a forced fumble and a recovery while Evan Schlesser also forced a fumble for ONR. Its next contest is on the road at Winlock, the other area 8-man team.
“Start to put the playoff push into perspective,” Bowes said. “Feels good to get back in that win column.”
