The Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) honored Colonel Mary Prophit, retired, of Glenoma, with the Distinguished Citizen Medal on Jan. 3 in Olympia, a news release stated.
When presenting the award, National Defense Committee Chair Donna Coorough told the assembled audience of Prophit’s 30 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves, according to the release.
Prophit’s military career took her to 13 different countries as she was mobilized three times while in the Reserves, including two deployments to Mosul, Iraq.
Prophit retired as a colonel in 2016.
“Colonel Prophit, has, indeed, demonstrated honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism in an exceptional manner,” Coorough said when presenting the medal.
The DAR award is intended to honor adult emergency first responders, emergency health responders, active-duty military and veterans of the United States Armed Forces, and citizens who have contributed to the defense, security or freedom of the community, state or nation in an exceptional manner.
