Climber dies in fall near North Bend

One person died in a fall Sunday near the Middle Fork Snoqualmie trailhead, according to emergency officials.

Eastside Fire and Rescue announced a rescue effort underway around 5 p.m. for a fallen climber," according to a post on social media. King County Search and Rescue also responded.

"Tragically, the fall patient is deceased, Eastside Fire and Rescue reported a short time later.

No other details were immediately provided.



The Middle Fork Snoqualmie trailhead is about 12 miles northeast of North Bend city limits.

The fatality is among several for hikers and climbers in Washington's backcountry in recent weeks.

Two people died in separate falls on Sauk Mountain in Skagit County last month. Also in September, a woman died amid a sudden snowstorm while hiking in the Enchantments.
