Bearcats Grind Out Win Over Shelton

The W.F. West girls basketball team shook free of Shelton in a dominant middle half Wednesday, downing the Highclimbers 57-27 on Wednesday in a 2A EvCo battle.

“They were scrappy and tough,” WFW coach Kyle Karnofski said. “They went at us, it was good for us to battle through that. 

W.F. West’s lead sat at just 14-11 after a quarter, but the Bearcats went on to hold the Highclimbers to six across the second and third; by the time the fourth quarter began, that three-point lead had ballooned to 24.

Julia Dalan put in 22 points to lead the Bearcats, who had seven players finish in the scoring column. Lena Fragner scored eight, Grace Simpson had seven, and Amanda Bennett and Morgan Rogerson both scored five.

Karnofski also pointed to Bennett for leading the defensive effort.

“Everyone buckled down and took care of business,” he said. “Collectively we did a good job.”

W.F. West will have two games crucial 2A EvCo games at home next week, facing Black Hills on Tuesday and Tumwater on Thursday with the chance to clinch a league title.
