The W.F. West girls basketball team came away with a decisive win in its first matchup against Tumwater this season, winning the rematch of last year’s district title game 57-36.

“It's the W.F. West/Tumwater matchup; that’s a big game,” WFW coach Kyle Karnofski said. “We’ve had some good games in the past, this one lived up to it as well… It felt like a big ball game like it always is.”

Julia Dalan led all scorers with 22 points, while Grace Simpson pitched in 10 for the Bearcats (11-2, 6-0 2A EvCo), who only led by three at halftime.

“Grace Simpson did a really good job,” Karnofski said. “She had a good third quarter and really got us going.”

That third quarter saw W.F. West begin to pull away, stretching the lead out to double figures, before the Bearcats finished the game on a 16-6 run in the fourth.

Elsa Schreck and Sydney Sumrok combined to hit eight 3-pointers on the night — Tumwater as a team made nine — and scored 31 of the T-Birds’ 36 points.

The Bearcats will head to Rochester on Thursday, and the Thunderbirds (7-5, 4-2 2A EvCo) will host Shelton.
