Bearcats Drop Nonleaguer to Bulldogs

A Zoey Robertson hat trick wasn’t enough for the W.F. West girls soccer team, which ended its regular season with a 4-3 nonleague loss to Montesano on Tuesday.

Robertson put the Bearcats ahead of the top 1A team in the WIAA’s RPI rankings in the 15th minute, off an assist from Cameron Sheets. Montesano came back to tie things up in the 19th minute, then took the lead in the 41st.

Robertson leveled the score off another Sheets assist in the 64th minute, but Montesano came back with two goals in quick succession, in the 67th and 72nd, to retake the lead and promptly extend it.

W.F. West got one back when Robertson completed her hat trick off a corner kick swung in by Lena Fragner in stoppage time, but ran out of time to find a second equalizer.

The Bearcats, who finished third in the 2A EvCo behind Tumwater and Aberdeen, will open their postseason in the first round of the District 4 tournament, either at Ridgefield or R.A. Long.
