Taking on an undefeated Columbia River squad that was outscoring opponents 97-5 heading into Tuesday’s match on the road in the 2A District 4 semifinals, the W.F. West boys soccer team put up a fight, but fell, 3-1.
The Rapids’ Alex Harris recorded a hat trick against the Bearcats’ defense, scoring all three of his goals in the first half in the 10th, 17th, and 35th minutes. It was goal No. 121, 122, and 123 for his career.
The Bearcats trimmed the deficit to one goal in the 20th, when Damien Hernandez scored off a nice set piece to cut it to 2-1, but a third goal from Harris in the 35th was enough distance to win it.
W.F. West will now play Hockinson on Thursday in a loser-out, winner-to-state consolation round game at a site and time to be determined.
