Playing on its home grass in Chehalis for the first time this season, the W.F. West boys soccer team took a few minutes to get settled before blanking Shelton in its opener, 6-0.

Israel Lopez Cruz and Damien Hernandez each recorded braces, and Elvis Leal Perez and Ethan Klovdahl also both found the back of the net with the Bearcats finding scoring in a variety of fashions. Adrian Jaimes logged three assists in a strong game from the midfield and Ezra Bolin also dished out two helpers.

“He had an excellent game tonight,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said of Jaimes. “All three of my center mids had a great game. I thought they controlled most of the game today.”

Jeremy Thompson, Jaimes, and Perez were all incredibly solid in the midfield, making plays for forwards up the field and controlling the pace of play throughout. The Bearcats outshot the Highclimbers, 16-1, in shots on frame.

“They did a fantastic job,” Anderson said. “Our center back Cameron Kunz shut everything down at the midline and fed everything to our center mids. It was a great way to see the team chemistry in our first game. Overall I’m really proud of the guys and the effort they put in.”

The Bearcats will look to continue their strong play in a non-league contest against Prairie Wednesday before another road trip back to league play in the Harbor against Aberdeen on Friday.
