Titans split doubleheader with Spartans

A late scoring surge helped the Pe Ell-Willapa Valley baseball team come away with a 9-5 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Forks, earning them a split after losing 10-6 earlier in the day.

In Game 1, Forks jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings thanks to five runs in the second and two in the third.

PWV was able to make a small dent in the lead with three runs in the fourth, but Forks responded with three in the fifth to push its lead back to seven.

Connor Keeton drove in a pair of runs, while Brayden Ruddell went 2 for 4 and scored a pair of runs.

After scoring three in the first inning of Game 2, it seemed the Titans (5-1, 3-1 P2BL) were in store for a nice offensive performance. Instead, their bats went silent over the next three innings, and Forks slowly built a 5-3 lead.

The PWV offense finally put up a crooked number in the fifth, scoring six runs to take a lead that the Titans wouldn’t relinquish.

The first four batters reached to open the inning, and after a Max Jarvis RBI single got the Titans within one, a fielder’s choice was enough to plate the tying run.

Two batters later, three runs scored on a Blake Howard single to left, and the final run came across on an RBI knock from Keeton.

Keeton earned the win on the mound in the second game, going six innings and allowing six hits and five runs (three earned) while walking four and striking out four. Jarvis pitched a perfect seventh, striking out two of the three batters he faced, and he went 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

Liam Smaciarz and Aiden Young also tallied two base hits and drove in a run.

The Titans are back in action on Friday for a non-league matchup against Mossyrock.
