Chehalis Police say an Oregon man was in possession of a stolen car when he was detained in Walmart for shoplifting.

Christopher R. Brown, 27, of Warrenton, Oregon was charged Friday with possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Chehalis Police Department responded to Walmart Thursday after being alerted to a male shoplifter. When they got there, they found Brown was being detained by store employees.

An officer “located a glass smoking device in his pocket as well as tin foil with a black substance smeared on it,” read court documents. The defendant allegedly identified the substance as Suboxone.

He was also in possession of car titles from the Oregon area. Brown allegedly told officers he had purchased them at auction. After finding the vehicle that he drove to the store, officers allegedly discovered it had been reported as stolen out of Portland.

In Lewis County Superior Court Friday afternoon, Judge James Lawler placed Brown on a $5,000 cash bond. He has an arraignment hearing scheduled for Sept. 27.
