A Vancouver man is facing a felony charge after allegedly starting a police chase that ended with his vehicle crashing just after midnight Tuesday near the Mellen Street offramp.

Jeremy P. Dodd, 26, of Vancouver, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude a police vehicle.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was driving north on Interstate 5 at 12:23 a.m. Tuesday when a vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed at about milepost 75.

“The vehicle came extremely close to the deputy’s patrol car,” said Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey in a news release.

The deputy pursued, and Dodd’s vehicle, a 2005 Infinity G35, drove away, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, according to the sheriff’s office.

Dodd left the freeway at Exit 81, went through the intersection and crashed after hitting a guardrail.

Dodd was medically cleared before being booked into the Lewis County Jail.

A 26-year-old female woman from Tacoma was a passenger in the vehicle, which was seriously damaged.
