Statewide Earthquake Drill Scheduled for Oct. 15

Washington state will participate in the Great Washington ShakeOut’s drop, cover, and hold earthquake drill on Oct. 15 at 10:15 a.m.

The drill emphasizes the need for people, schools, organizations and businesses to practice safety and be prepared before an earthquake strikes.

Last year, more than one million Washingtonians participated in the Great Washington ShakeOut, and as of Sept. 15, more than 652,000 people registered for the drill.

This year, residents and businesses unable to participate in the drill on Oct. 15 are encouraged to register and do the drill at a more convenient time.

“The important part is just to practice earthquake safety — and then do one more thing, either a communications plan, an emergency kit, map your neighborhood or even make sure you have a plan for your pets in the face of an emergency,” stated a press release from the Great Washington ShakeOut.

Dozens of schools will also participate in the event.
