One person was injured Tuesday in a collision on U.S. Highway 12 after a Longview driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, according to the Washington State Patrol.

At 3:22 p.m. on Tuesday, the State Patrol responded to a report of a three-car crash on U.S. Highway 12 about 8 miles south of Chehalis.

A 2005 Ford F-150 truck driven by Brady A. Clair, 21, of Longview, was heading westbound on the highway when it crossed the centerline, striking two other vehicles heading eastbound — a 1996 Ford F350 truck driven by Charles C. Caton, 50, of Chehalis, and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado truck, driven by Johnny O. Jacobson, 46, of Rochester.

The first vehicle continued across the bridge at the junction of Interstate 5 and U.S. Highway 12, becoming disabled in the road.

Blair allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, according to the State Patrol. He is facing a charge of second-degree negligent driving.

Blair was injured but not transported to a hospital. The other two drivers were not injured. Blair’s vehicle was totaled, and the other two trucks were damaged but driven from the scene.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
