RFA Extinguishes Blaze at Ace International

• Riverside Fire Authority responded to a commercial structure fire at Ace International Inc. in the 1800 block of Centralia Boulevard in Centralia. Crews responded at about 3:45 a.m. Thursday. Riverside officials said the company has storage containers with highly flammable fine sawdust and one caught fire. The fire spread to the ductwork. Riverside did call other departments to respond but canceled the call because it was able to handle the blaze. The department had four engines and was on scene for about two hours. No injuries were reported and there was moderate damage, but the facility should be operating today. How the sawdust container caught on fire is under investigation.

 

Small Dumpster Fire Out Quickly

• Crews from Riverside Fire Authority quickly extinguished a Dumpster fire in an alley in the 500 block of North Tower Avenue. A passerby reported the flames at about 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Damage to the container and a nearby fence are estimated at about $500. There were no injuries. The fire is under investigation and is considered suspicious.

Robber Pulls Knife on Clerk

• A man who allegedly stole a beer from a convenience store pulled a knife on the clerk after she confronted him. The clerk had followed the man several blocks away from the store in the 400 block of West Main Street at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday. The clerk pleaded with the man to give the beer back. After the suspect pulled out the knife and started walking toward her, the clerk fled. He is described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s and was wearing a dark-colored baseball hat, a dark gray sweatshirt and jeans.

 

Family Matters

• Police arrested Dean A. Burgess Sr., 59, of Centralia, in the 1200 block of Alder Street in Centralia at 6:34 on Tuesday for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence. Burgess allegedly shoved a family member during a dispute. 

 

Don’t Go There

• Miguel A. Palermo-Vasquez, 31, of Centralia, was arrested for trespassing after he barged into a home in the 1200 block of Marion Street in Centralia at 7:12 p.m. on Tuesday. Palermo-Vasquez allegedly started a dispute and had previously been warned about trespassing. 

 

Assault at Providence Centralia Hospital

• Police arrested Sherene R. Cluzel, 27, of Centralia, for third-degree assault after she allegedly assaulted a security guard at Providence Centralia Hospital at 7:47 p.m. on Tuesday. She had already been removed from the property for being disorderly.

 

Nudity and Drugs Reported Near Train Station

• Charles R. Simpson, 37, of Centralia, was arrested after allegedly exposing himself in the parking lot of the train station in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue in Centralia. He was arrested and booked for indecent exposure and possession of meth at 9:23 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

Meth Possession

• Timothy P. McCann, 44, of Centralia, was arrested for possession of meth in the 1200 block of Alder Street in Centralia at 5:16 p.m. on Monday.

 

Gun Theft on Belmont Avenue in Centralia

• Police received a report of two guns stolen out of a vehicle in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue in Centralia at 9:35 p.m. on Wednesday.

Deer Vs. Pickup

• A 31-year-old Chehalis man sustained a headache after he swerved to miss a deer at Milepost 15 on Centralia-Alpha Road in Chehalis at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday. He was driving a 1992 Ford F250 pickup when he tried to miss the deer and drove into the ditch. The pickup was totaled and deputies found the deer under the vehicle. 

 

Wagon Stolen

• A Chehalis woman reported that her 1991 Honda Accord Station Wagon was stolen from Schaefer Park in the 800 block of State Route 507 in Centralia at 1 a.m. on Tuesday. The 54-year-old woman reported that she was having mechanical issues and left her car in the park. She told deputies she locked the car with the keys in the ignition and when she returned, the car was gone. The vehicle is valued at $1,000. 

 

Underage Pot Possession

• A 19-year-old Toledo man was cited and released for possession of marijuana under 40 grams at Werden Park in the 500 block of A Street in Vader. Skyler J. Vickery-Morrison was contacted by a deputy at about 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday. While talking the deputy could smell pot. When questioned, Vickery-Morrison turned over the marijuana, a glass pipe and a lighter.

 

Truck Driver Has Near Miss With Bus

• A 35-year-old man lost control of the 1975 Kenworth dump truck he was driving when he tried to brake for a school bus in the 500 block of Boistfort Road in Curtis. At about 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday the truck passed a school bus stop ahead sign, but was traveling too fast to stop for a bus that was dropping off a child. The truck missed the bus and went into the ditch. No one was injured and the driver of the truck was cited for wheels off the roadway.  

 

Bus Heater Catches Fire

• A Winlock School District bus heater caught fire at 7:39 a.m. Thursday. Five to six elementary students were on the bus parked in the 500 block of North Military Road in Winlock when the heater started smoking and a fire started. No one was injured and the fire burned itself out by the time deputies arrived. Dust or debris in the heater is believed to be the cause of the fire.
