A Toledo woman received minor injuries Thursday in a “negligent discharge” accident with a pistol, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident reportedly happened at about 2 p.m. Thursday in Toledo

At 2:49 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to the emergency department at Providence Centralia Hospital after getting a report of a possible accidental shooting.

The woman reported that she had arthritis in her hands, but she wanted to practice shooting her pistol with her husband and his friend, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

She was walking from her bedroom to the residence’s front door when she pulled the trigger on the gun, thinking it was not loaded. The hollow-point bullet hit the gun’s magazine and fragmented. In the process, the woman’s hand was lacerated, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was released from the hospital after doctors cleaned and bandaged the wound.
