A Quilcene, Washington man was hospitalized Monday morning after his motorcycle was hit by a truck driven by a Rochester resident in Jefferson County.

Cody J. Sawby-Smith, 34, was taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to a press release from Washington State Patrol.

At 5:14 a.m., Benjamin J. Detray, 46, of Rochester was reportedly topped at Eaglemount Road and State Route 20, in a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Sawby-Smith was approaching the intersection eastbound on a ZongShen Motorcycle.

Detray allegedly failed to yield right of way, the press release states, and entered into the intersection, striking Sawby-Smith’s motorcycle on the left side. Sawby-Smith was ejected and thrown over the top of the truck.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash, according to WSP.
