Lewis County Approves Grants from ‘Distressed Counties Fund’ to EDC

The Board of Lewis County Commissioners on Monday approved two grants to the Lewis Economic Development Council from its Distressed Counties Fund, paid for by a .09 percent sales tax.

First, the BOCC approved a $30,000 grant for a study on a proposed Packwood sewer project.

“This would be the fourth effort to do this,” said EDC Director Matt Matayoshi.

The study will only look at adding sewer in Packwood’s commercial corridor, he said.

The BOCC also approved two $165,000 grants — one each for two years — for “EDC Operations and Implementation of marketing and business retention and expansion efforts,” according to the resolution passed by the commission.

Distressed Counties Fund monies can be used for public facilities and economic development in rural counties, according to state law.
