A Kittitas County deputy and a suspect were both killed, and a city of Kittitas police officer was injured, in a shooting Tuesday evening.

The condition of the injured Kittitas officer, who was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, was not immediately available Wednesday morning.

Deputies had been trying to stop a vehicle in the Badger Pocket area of Kittitas County, but the driver refused to halt and fled into the city of Kittitas, according to the Sheriff's Office.

There, the vehicle stopped at the end of Pierce Street and one person got out and exchanged gunfire with a deputy and a police officer, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The deputy suffered a fatal gunshot wound and the police officer was wounded.

The suspect was taken to Kittitas Valley Hospital, according to the Sheriff's Office. The suspect later died, KING-TV says.

The names and identities of the officers are not being released until family notifications are completed, the Sheriff's Office said.

An investigation into the shooting will be made by the Ellensburg Police Department at the request of the Sheriff's Office. A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
