How to Help After Deadly Centralia House Fire

Posted

People interested in helping the family affected by the deadly Friday morning fire in Centralia can do so in a variety of ways.

Donations, including clothes, hygiene items, money and other necessities, can be dropped off at Shankz Black Light Miniature Golf at the Yard Birds Mall, 2100 N. National Ave., Chehalis.

Owner David Ostrand said he doesn’t know the family, but he’s accepting donations because he has two daughters, and he said it felt like the responsible thing to do.

He hopes that a family member will be able to step in to help with the donations

Shankz is open until 10 a.m. Friday night, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, but Ostrand said they can be open additional hours if needed.

Shankz is also contributing $100 to the family and is challenging other businesses to do the same.

A gofundme account has raised $1,055 as of 4:25 p.m. Friday. According to the description of the online fundraiser, the money will go toward “funeral costs, finding a new home, and everything else that comes with such a devastating tragedy.”

Security State Bank is also accepting monetary donations under the name Sandra Wing.

Cards and letters of support can be dropped off at P.O. Box 99 at PostNet at 1121 Harrison Ave., Centralia.

People can also offer support by attending a candlelight vigil sponsored by the friends and family of the fire victims at 8 p.m. Saturday in Washington Park at Main and Pearl streets in Centralia.
